On May 19th, 2012, our new Engine 12-2 was dedicated and placed into service. During the ceremony, Lt. Nathan Miller related the history of fire apparatus. In the horse and buggy days, the horses were detached from horsedrawn fire apparatus; due to dirt roads at the time, the apparatus was washed and then pushed back into quarters. During our ceremony, old Engine 12-2 reported out of service with Buncombe County Emergency Operations Center, new Engine 12-2 signed into service, the new Engine 12-2 was ceremonially washed utilizing hoses and water from old Engine 12-2, attendees dried the new Engine and fire department members ceremonially pushed the new Engine into quarters. Those in attendance were former and current fire department members, Fire Department Auxiliary, current and former Board Members, current and former Department Chief's, members of Asheville Fire Department, members of Enka-Candler Fire Department and members of the community. We thank those in attendance for making this a special day.
